While browsing the web today I discovered a sequel to one my "Five Funniest Books Ever". The title I am referring to is Yiddish with Dick and Jane which combines the iconic characters Dick and Jane, with the patented rhythms of the original book (This is Jane. See Jane schlep. Schlep Jane schlep.) and the addition of "edgy, ironic Yiddishisms that have become part of the American vernacular". Dick schmoozes, when Jane kvetches, when their children fressnoodles at a Chinese restaurant which provides for a priceless clash of languages and cultures. It is important to note that Yiddish with Dick and Jane also tells a story - Grandma gets sick and Dick and Jane's sister Sally visits. The book also features subplots about such ethical dilemmas as gift-giving etiquette and marital infidelity.
Even more hillarious is the video that the creators of Yiddish with Dick and Jane have created to accompany the book. It can be viewed for free here.
So, you can see why it is that I fell in love with this book and was enamored with the glossary of Yiddish terms in the back of the book so that I, too, could kvetch, fressnoodle and all of that other good stuff.
So, you're probably wondering what the new books is ... right? The sequel is Yiddish with George and Laura. Yes, that George and Laura. These ironic and strikingly expressive Yiddish catch phrases are invading the White House! Once again there's a story with an important message to be learned at the end making this work both funny and heart warming.
He is our President.
He lives in a fancy white house
and he is a big shmegegge.
Once again the creators of the book have made a video to accompany the book. It includes scenes from the book and even more. It is a must see and can be found here.
The entire Bush clan appears in this equally hillarious follow up to Yiddish with Dick and Jane. Here's a sample of what you can expect to find:
See George's mother.
Her name is Bar.
She wears alot of pearls and is a farbisseneh.
"You are late, George," Bar says.
"Of course I am late," George says.
"I am the President of the United States.
I am a big macher."
It should be noted that I have recommended this book because of it is funny and creative! We have turned down a great many political books that have been offered for review at Loaded Questions because of a desire to remain free from political issues, controversial or otherwise.
